Arizona State University

As many of you know, Georgia students have the opportunity to complete up to thirty dual enrollment credits for free in the 11th and 12th grade (and possibly 10th with a good SAT score).

A concern I had with my children was how I would know if they were ready for these classes? One of the issues with taking the dual enrollment classes is that they stay on the student’s college transcript, so it can be risky. One way to know you are ready is to take a class with the Arizona State University Universal Learners Program. The cost of the class is just $25. You get access to lectures, readings, testing material and feedback included in that price. The work is graded and if you feel that the grade is good, you can transcribe the class for $400. You are given a year to decide whether you want to transcribe or not. However, if the grade is not good, you do not have to transcribe the class and the results of that class do not show up on your student’s college transcript. As the homeschool administrator, you can determine the final high school grade. If your goal is to transcribe the class, make sure to check the transfer equivalency of your destination college.

Last semester my fifteen year old completed an American Government class with ASU and offers her review here:

The American Government class at ASU far exceeded my expectations. The video lessons and course readings were very informative and provided all the necessary information in an unbiased way allowing me to form my own informed opinion. My favorite assignments were the discussion posts. In the discussion post assignments, we read the required course readings and made discussion posts answering the questions provided. We then replied to each others’ posts, asking questions and sharing different perspectives on the topic. It was very interesting to learn about my classmates’ varying opinions. Because it is an online class, the ASU Universal Learners program attracts high school students from all over the USA. The goal of the class is to allow students to form and share their own opinions on the topic of American Government in an informed manner. One thing I liked about the writing assignments is that the grading is based on the quality of the argument. As long as your argument is well-written and supported by good quality evidence, you can get full points. I completed the class feeling confident both in my ability to form opinions on current events, and in my ability to keep up with the workload of an 8 week college class.
