Homeschool Moms in the Wild: Robin Turner
My name is Robin Turner and I am married to Rob. We have been together for 23 years and have 3 beautiful daughters, 2 dogs, 1 cat, and a dozen chickens.”
When did you begin homeschooling?
“I guess we started unofficially homeschooling in 2014. Our oldest is a summer baby so we didn't submit a Declaration of Intent until she was 6 and starting kindergarten at the newly-minted Turner Academy for Girls.”
How did you begin homeschooling?
“I was a public school teacher for years and loved it. When the time came for our oldest to begin kindergarten, I mentioned to my husband that I could homeschool her until the last one was school age. Then, we just… kept going. It was a journey we were loving!"
What type of homeschooler are you?
“We definitely don't fit in any specific category, but pull from a variety of styles and schools. When the girls were younger, we took more of a Charlotte Mason/Reggie Emilia approach. As they approached middle school, we started a Classical style but still mixed it up occasionally.”
What is your favorite thing about homeschooling?
“Can I say all of it? I love being with my girls all day, doing life together. I love exploring their interests and showing them mine. I love the flexibility and, especially, the community God has given us. He has answered our prayers for Christ-honoring friends.
What are your homeschool wins?
“All of my girls love to read, like me! They are kind and fun and great conversationalists. That's a gift from the Lord but I'll take it!”
What would you do differently?
“I'm not a big fan of science so I didn't nurture their scientific interests like I should have. If I could, I would go back and do much more in that realm.”
Who inspires you to continue homeschooling?
“I know that this is the path God has placed us on and I am glad to move forward confidently as long as He leads.”
